Garden before and during installation

The primary entrance to this home consisted of an ill-conceived slate patio between the driveway and the house.  The area was sunbaked and unattractive, and the client disliked the pool blue foundation.

The rectangular space, used as the primary entrance to the home, called for a more formal design.  Pea gravel walkways guide the way through aromatic plants that attract butterflies and birds.  Mature shrubs provide shade and privacy.  The garden smells and looks good, making a pleasant entrance to the home as well as a place to sit and have morning coffee or evening cocktails.  These photos show where it started and how the plantings grew and changed over time.
